Studio Workshop
Is YUPO for you?
Known as the “YUPO QUEEN”, Taylor has been painting on this unique surface for over 12 years. Enjoy the magic of this synthetic paper and get energized and ready to tickle your creative juices. Individual attention and class critiques, the opportunity to try special paints…motivational reading and art discussions…a cheerful environment full of challenging work ideas and a positive spirit…a class for the person who wants to make art (some class members also paint on 140 cold press as well as canvas) …bring the spirit to learn and explore…everyone is considered a winner in this class.
Field trips / We will search outside for subject matter and sketching. Because of the delightful movement of the paint on YUPO, it is more responsive if serious work is done on a controlled flat surface usually found in the classroom.
Limited to 15 students.
All levels - For anyone with the spirit to let go and celebrate the joy in making art. Some experience is to the student's advantage.
Fee: $595 per student
SUPPLY LIST
IF YOU ARE NOT A YUPO PAINTER…THAT IS GREAT!
BRING THE MEDIUM AND SUPPLIES YOU ENJOY THE MOST…CANVAS, COLLAGE ETC. WHTAEVER TURNS YOU ON. I AM THERE TO HELP, ENCOURAGE, CRITIQUE AND EXCITE YOUR CREATIVE SPIRIT!
The following is what I enjoy using. The choice is yours. Just be sure to bring a creative spirit!
PAPER: YUPO paper This is the only surface I have used for years. My process depends on the unique qualities of this fabulous synthetic surface. Bring sheets of medium or heavy weight Yupo paper. If you prefer cold press, etc…go for it…
I will work on YUPO but critique all mediums.
BRUSHES: I like BIG brushes 36 rounds and 2” flat. Bring what you have.
PAINTS: I prefer American Journey Paints by Cheap Joe’s. I use a whole range of reds, yellows and blues. I would suggest including the Taylor’s Flamingo Pink as it is a great mixer and invaluable in landscape work. Bring any paints that work for you and make you happy. It does not matter what brand if it is something you enjoy. I will have tubes of American Journey Paints for you to try, compliments of Cheap Joe’s Art Stuff in Boone, NC. They are my paint of choice and yours to enjoy during the workshop.
REFERENCE IMAGES OR SKETCHES: Bring your own reference material and pictures or paint as you go. Painting on YUPO is mostly a studio event because you need a flat surface. However, we will spend time outside gathering reference, sketching, selecting and drawing our painting subject. This will be a Plein Air/Studio class.
STUFF: Paper towels, Kleenex, spray bottle, water container, artist tape, paper bag for trash, mat knife, brushes, pallet etc… anything important to your painting experience. Pencils, erasers and anything else that makes you happy and focused!
PALLET: I use a John Pike lid…I like it better when there are no wells and there is a lot of space for mixing your own colors. Paper plates will do as well…so bring what you have at home.
SUPPORT BOARDS TO HOLD YOUR YUPO:
20 X 26 will be good, several needed. Foam core is what I also use. Cardboard will do if it is all that you have.
YUPO: Great for watercolor, acrylic, crayon, pastel, graphic, pen and ink. Bring it all and try it!
