Barrett Edwards
Oil - Plein Air FUN-damentals
June 9 - 13, 2008
Barrett is an award-winning artist and experienced landscape instructor who has taught for many years in Naples, Florida and in the Colorado Rockies.
A member of Plein Air Artists of Colorado and Oil Painters of America, she continues to share the joys of plein air painting through workshops in Provence, France; the Bahamas, and now in Acadia National Park.
Barrett's enthusiasm is contagious: she focuses on each student individually, with emphasis on making it a no-stress, fun experience.
Students will focus on landscape composition, shapes and values, plus how to simplify, avoid pitfalls, and mix color to capture Acadia's stunning natural beauty.
For beginners as well as the more advanced, her easy manner and quick eye keep her workshops sold out.
This workshop limited to 12 students.

Supply List:
Recommended Paints:
Cadmium red light, Alizarin Crimson or Carmine, Transparent Red Oxide, French Ultramarine Blue, Manganese Blue, Cadmium Yellow Pale, Cadmium Yellow Deep, Gold Ochre Pale, Titanium White, Sap Green, Veridian, Winsor/Dioxazine Violet, Radiant Violet (Gamblin only), Lavender (Holbein Duo only).
Optional other paints: Buff titanium, burnt umber.
Supports:(10) 9 x 12 canvases/canvas boards/Ray Mar panels or gessoed conservation boards--whatever you prefer to paint on. You'll need a wet box for storage (Ray Mar makes excellent, light-weight wet boxes for panels).
Misc:Palette and easel (Open M Box with tripod is terrific). A sturdy plein air umbrella is also helpful (Artwork Essentials, Inc, makes the best one I've seen). If you're used to sitting while you paint, bring a stool or folding chair, but I prefer that you stand.
You'll also need paper towels, mineral spirits and palette cup or small jar with lid (pimento jar is perfect); two Bull clips; med. soft vine charcoal; viewfinder (4 x 6 mat works well); digital camera (strongly recommended); Palette knife (metal blade, medium size), Filbert (my preference) or Flat bristle brushes, sizes 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10; one detailer, size 01; one small, bristle fan brush. Murphy's wipes, sketch book and pen/pencil, bug spray, visor/hat (a must!), sturdy shoes. Wouldn't hurt to pack a lightweight rain poncho, but don't bring a bright color anything - it attracts bugs. You're set: now, let's have fun.
