Alla Prima Plein Air Painting
Oil / Acrylic
Plein Air / Studio
September 8 - 11, 2014 (4 Day workshop)
This is a 4-day Plein Air Workshop that will be held at beautiful Bass Harbor in the Acadia area of Maine. Armand will choose specific sites for each day designed to teach the student how to approach different subjects & to give the student a variety of experiences to enhance both their artistic growth and their visit to this beautiful area.
Armand Cabrera workshops are a fun and intensive way to study the Essentials of Successful Painting, no matter what your style or level. He guides his students with practical solutions to overcome the obstacles that often prevent them from creating successful paintings. Armand has a maximum of 12 students in his workshops, allowing each student to get plenty of attention. Students will learn how to finish 2 paintings per day in an alla prima method.
Armand teaches how to simplify and organize the painting process to work within the fleeting time constraints of the roving sun. He instructs how to "organize nature" and capture light and atmosphere in a painterly fashion.
Orientation: The workshop will start with a meet and greet and an informative presentation. You’ll learn what to expect during the workshop.
Daily: You’ll begin the class at 9 am. After discussing the location and challenges, you’ll set up your easel and begin painting. Armand will keep the students close together so he can circulate to each of the students many times for individual instruction.
Lunch break: We’ll break around noon. While you are finishing your lunch, Armand will demo…usually between 12 pm - 1 pm ... during the most challenging time of the day.
He leaves the better hours of light for the students to paint at their easels.
Afternoon: After Armand demos, students will start a new painting at their easels. The light will have changed dramatically, so you’ll need to start a new canvas.
You’ll paint until 4:30 (longer if you wish to continue painting). Students discover how to eliminate their weaknesses. More seasoned painters will be taught how to solve advanced problems and perfect their technique.
In the event of rain, the workshop will be held at the Acadia Workshop Center Studio. Students are asked to bring small sketches or photos from which to paint. Students should anticipate weather changes and bring proper attire.
Important: Please go to Armand’s website to review the important Materials List and Reading Materials. It’s important that you can carry all your gear in one trip. Please see more info on Armand’s website and his informative blog.
